Where is the outrage?
Remember the $400 haircut for John Edwards? How about the $2700 hairdo for Hillary? Al Gore’s earth-tone suits?
I seem to recall the Right Wingnuts making a huge deal out of each of those ‘scandals’. Limousine Liberals. Elite Liberals. Out-of-touch-with-the average-person Liberals.
Remember all of that? Hannity railled on about that for months.
But nary a peep about Sarah Palin being given $130,000 by the RNC for clothes. Not just ANY clothes. Not clothes that the average person buys at Macy’s or JC Penneys, or Sears, but designer clothes described as “campaign accessories” bought at the upscale stores like:
Saks Fifth Avenue – $50,000
Neiman Marcus – $75,000
Hair and makup – $5,000
Most people don’t make that kind of money in a year, and most people in today’s economic climate are putting off buying clothes at the more traditional mall stores. But “average Hockey-Mom” Sarah Palin is spending $130k on a few designer dresses so she can look like the average person?
Never mind that this woman is hardly qualified for a middle-management position in a small company.
First, in our topsy-turvey world of what passes for journalism these days, where the Daily Show actually does investigative reporting, and CNN’s Drew Griffin does a fluff-piece, we have a definitive idea of what Sarah Palin’s “Executive Experience” is all about:
Scary, huh? The office of the Wasilla Mayor is basically a ceremonial position with about as much responsibility as a manager running the Quickie Mart.
CNN’s Drew Griffin did his fluff piece with a sit-down with Sarah Palin. You will remember Drew Griffin’s hard-hitting report with the Lake County Election board on ACORN’s bad registrations. It was the interview where he failed to let us know that the stack of 5000 bad registrations was the stack that ACORN turned in clearly labelled as being “suspicious”, and represented only a small fraction of the thousands of good registrations that ACORN had turned in on previous days. He kinda left that little detail out because it didn’t fit in with his idea that ACORN was perpetrating a “fraud”.
Here he is letting Sarah Palin loose without any real followups:
“That’s something that Piper would ask me as a second grader also, That’s a great question, Brandon.
A vice president has a really great job because not only are they there to support the president’s agenda, they are like the team member, the team mate to that president but also they are in charge of the United States Senate, so if they want to, they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom and it’s a great job and I look forward to having it.”
My head hurts just listening to that. Much like her religious belief of the earth being less than 5000 years old and that man walked the earth with the dinosaurs, she has a completely skewed idea of what the duties of the vice president really are.
As any third-grader could tell you, the only real job of the Vice President is to be ready to assume the duties of the office of the presidency should the current president become dead or unable to discharge the duties of the office. The VP is also the “President of the Senate”, but only has one responsibility, and that is to cast a tie-breaking vote in case there is a tie in the Senate. Basically, it is a ceremonial job that holds no real authority. There is another “make-work” duty where the President can send the VP to foreign funerals in case the president himself doesn’t want to attend.
But that is it.
There is a reason why McCain is going to lose this election, and why more and more Republicans are starting to move over to Obama’s side and vote for him. It is because of Sarah Palin.
Only the die-hard base are sticking with her, and there are even some who would rather see a Palin/McCain ticket. But thankfully, the percentage of people like that make up only about 30 percent of the population.
