Taking their ball and going home
I can safely die now, for I think I have heard just about everything.
Apparently, Alegre, a writer over at the Daily Koshas decided that she has had enough with the
criticism Hillary bashin’ she sees on the Daily Kos. She has decided that she is going to spearhead a writer’s strike at the DailyKos until all of the criticism of Hillary stops, and I presume all of the Obama supporters just sit back and let her trash-talk Obama.
Tits on a boar!
Here is a few tidbits from her declaration:
Writers Strike at DailyKos
Writer(s)? My, aren’t you full of yourself. I notice that there are still enough writers posting to the blog to cover for your temper tantrum.
This is an open letter to the progressive blogosphere…
Ive been posting at DailyKos for nearly 4 years now and started writing diaries in support of Hillary Clinton back in June of last year. Over the past few months Ive noticed that things have become progressively more abusive toward my candidate and her supporters.
Ive put up with the abuse and anger because Ive always believed in what our on-line community has tried to accomplish in this world. No more. DailyKos is not the site it once was thanks to the abusive nature of certain members of our community.
Ive decided to go on “strike” and will refrain from posting here as long as the administrators allow the more disruptive members of our community to trash Hillary Clinton and distort her record without any fear of consequence or retribution. I will not be posting at DailyKos effective immediately. I will not help drive up traffic or page-hits as long as my candidate a good and fine DEMOCRAT – is attacked in such a horrid and sexist manner not only by other diarists, but by several of those posting to the front page.
Are you confusing abuse with criticism? Are you the only one allowed to have an opinion as to who you think is the best candidate?
A quick review of your diary at DailyKos shows that you aren’t afraid to
criticize bash Obama, but when people start picking on poor Hillary, then you want to take your ball and go home?
Beat it then.
Instead, I will put my energy into posting at sites where my efforts arent routinely trashed, spammed and ridiculed by a handful of angry, petty and spiteful folks who clearly have too much time on their hands.
This is a strike – a walkout over unfair writing conditions at DailyKos. It does not mean that if conditions get better I won’t “work” at DailyKos again. As a regular contributor to the discourse in our community, I would certainly hope to take part in the conversation at DailyKos again some day if we ever get to the point where were engaging each other in discussion rather than facing off in shouting matches. But not now. Writers need a safe place to reach out and exchange ideas, to communicate and challenge one another. DailyKos should be that place, but its tone, its essence has evolved into something ugly and destructive. Good writers can’t survive in that kind of atmosphere. Democrats shouldn’t have to put up with that from fellow Democrats.
Where are you to go? If you hadn’t noticed, Obama has supporters everywhere. It isn’t as if those of us who support Obama haven’t gotten sick and tired of Hillary’s Rovian tactics.
I was unaware that writers need a “safe zone” in order to write. GOOD writers hope to stir controversy, to make people think. Mediocre writers write in hopes that everyone will get along and have a group hug. If you see some of the places where I write, you would probably wet your bloomers. (I write in places where most people can’t stand my viewpoint, and have called me every name in the book and some they had to make up)
Sadly, the majority of the administrators have allowed this hostile environment to develop in our online community for anyone who isnt planted firmly in the Obama camp. They’ve routinely ignored personal attacks and allowed disruptive, spam-like posts to go unchecked whenever anyone expresses support for Hillary or challenges something their candidate has said or done. There are however several front-pagers who have managed to avoid taking part in the attacks on Hillary and for that Im grateful. But the site has grown to the point where they simply cant or wont monitor it.
If you say something, you had better have the fortitude to be able to stand up and defend it. If you spend your time trashing Obama in your writings, then expect someone to reach out and, well, bitch-slap you.
Welcome to politics, young lady. It isn’t for the faint of heart. Just as you are passionate about Hillary, others are going to be just as passionate about Obama.
As a result, our community has become little more than an echo chamber with an attitude that harkens back to the early days of Dubbyas administration – yer either with us or yer agin us, heh! The attackers and disrupters are no better than Chris Matthews with their sexism, hate, lies, and obsession with bashing – all things Hillary.
This is THE reason why Hillary will never win the Presidency. The attacks against her haven’t even started yet.
Of all the candidates the Democratic Party could put up, Hillary has the highest “negatives” of anyone. Republicans are keeping their powder dry right now while the in-fighting is going on in the Democratic Party, but they have been salivating for a Hillary run for president for eight years now. There isn’t a Democratic candidate that will mobilize the Republican base to get out to vote than Hillary.Homer Simpsoncould be running against McCain and they wouldn’t come out to vote as much as they would if Hillary was the candidate.
There is also the huge chunk of people who don’t want another “dynasty” presidency.
Then there are people like me who felt that Bill Clinton was probably the best Republican president we’ve had in modern times, and that Hillary is NOT Bill Clinton.
Frankly, Hillary has shown her dark side in this campaign when she found herself losing in the Primaries against Obama. Up until her “Obama is a Muslim” attacks, I probably could have supported her if she had won the nomination. But she let her real self show through and it is ugly.
So have your little strike. Take up shuffleboard in your retirement.
