The News Pauper: This Ones Already Done

This Ones Already Done

by W.B. Dunne

The News Pauper is like the wind, irregular and unreliable, yet somehow has the rep for constancy. When the poor thing is wandering the streets of his city, woefully cognizant of his duty being unfulfilled, you may assure yourself that the mind of our hero is perpetually focused on the taskjust the same.

Enter todays subject, TORTURE! How could I resist?

Unlike what the rest of the world seems to be doing, focusing on the question of whether or not the torture actually worked, I have two unrelated points to make.

The first point I want to make is that we are not paying enough attention to the warnings tendered by the man himself, Dick Cheney, to BACK THE F#!K OFF!

The closer we get to him, the more we guarantee that another attack will occur. The News Pauper is no Machiavelli, but he can see the name of his city on the list of terror strikes. The truth is, this is the only reason Osama Bin Laden has not been caught. The Boogeyman has to remain at large, there has to be an element of conjecture that a sole badguy can pull off, something that would take a vice president of a powerful country to make happen. The very threat of the boogeyman rising up out of his legendary cave to feast on the gore should be horror and terror enough to fend off any adventurers from digging too deep into who did what and how.

The truth is that we all know weve been had. This entire country is divided into those who can handle the truth and those who cant. Those who cant are in denial about a vice president breaking every accepted practice of history by appearing ad nauseam in the press disparaging his replacements actions. (Yes, I am saying that Dick Cheney was the president.) What other vice president has ever warned of further attacks during the first hundred days of a new administration? When has the press ever given credence to such unorthodox activity?

What has happened here is that Dick is scared. He is afraid. Using his logic, we need to preemptively neutralize this traitor before he can pull off another fast one. Why are we kidding ourselves? Here is Satan himself, in all his hateful torturing glory! A more odious human failure there has never been!

The threat is more potent than the reality. The minute we pick him up hell become an invalid too sick to prosecutethe more of his actions and guilt that are exposed, the sicker and sicker hell become. It is not rare in history for the entire world to fall under, and pay the price of, a madman. As in many episodes in our history of the world, the truth outs even as the tyrant has made his escape.
The examples of history do little to prevent greedy avaricious men from doing their damage, and even less for anyone shouting the warning.

My other point is that the flood of information well be forced to reckon with as the case progresses will change forever the way we view ourselves in this country. We are an immature, selfish culture. The legacy of the past eight years and the damage we wreaked on the rest of the world will haunt us long after we have accomplished our recovery in the economy. Restitution for the abandonment of our ideals will take decades longer than repaying the debt. Furthermore, I am grateful for the current president taking steps sooner rather than later to reverse the travesties meted out with regularity in the last administration. I hope that you can see this.

We all need to be grateful that Dick Cheney is such a failure, too. Because of him, there is a whole philosophy of repulsive selfishness that is collapsing before our eyes. Those that endorsed and supported the dogma of the conservative bent are reaping ridicule and shame. Well deserved contempt meets those that maintain the fallacy that there was any honor at all in the party that obtained power in such a way, then proceeded to abuse it in such a way.

Of course, there is so much more to come.
