The Right and their Circular Information Squad

I got an email this morning from a subscription list I am involved with on a pro-Israel site. “Involved with” meaning that I designed and set up the site along with its 25000+ subscription newsletter for someone else — similar to my involvement here, such as it’s been lately.

This emailed Newsletter was entitled, “Obama and Hamas”, in which the author cites a World Net Daily piece alleging that:

The group behind the Gaza flotilla that engaged in deadly clashes with Israeli commandos today counts among its top supporters the friends and associates of President Barack Obama, namely the founders of the Weather Underground terrorist organization, William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, as well as Jodie Evans, the leader of the radical activist organization Code Pink.

The flotilla was organized by the Free Gaza Movement, a coalition of leftist human rights activists and pro-Palestinian groups engaged in attempts to break a blockade imposed by Israel on the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.

Ayers, Dohrn and Evans’ Code Pink have led several recent Free Gaza Movement initiatives, including attempted marches into the Gaza Strip. Dorhn was in the Middle East just last month on behalf of the movement.

Ayers and Dohrn were close associates for years with President Obama, while Evans was a fundraiser and financial bundler for Obama’s presidential campaign.

Curious, I thought I would go look for the genesis of this story — you know, some actual factual information, complete with… well, facts.

After all, this is quite a story.

But somehow, the real media missed it. I searched for any mention outside of the Right-Wing Noise Machine of any connection of William Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, and Jodie Evans to the anti-blockade flotilla and could find none. Zilch. Nada. Not even the Israeli papers.

All we have is Aaron Klein trying to connect Obama to the Gaza flotilla — by inserting Obama’s “top supporters the friends andassociates” Ayers, Dohrn, and Evans.

Like a ping pong ball, the story bounces around through the blogosphere, gets repeated and quoted many times, and before long it somehow becomes a “fact” because the story is everywhere.

You can bet that by tonight, Glenn Beck’s blackboards will be all chalked up with the tenuous connections and conspiracies surrounding this story. Why? Because he read it first at WND. Beck’s own involvement in putting the story out will further add “legitimacy” to it .
