HERD ABOUT IT?

by Ana Grarian

Why does Israel keep Palestinians separated from the water and cropland they need to feed themselves?

Farmer’s who have followed the trend into mono-culture, must sell a single commodity to gain access into the capitalist economy. Living on a very narrow margin makes them hesitant to try anything other than what the seed and feed “experts” recommend.

In coal mining towns in WV, the growing of gardens was made difficult due to lack of arable land or through zoning regulations.

WHY?

If miner’s couldn’t feed themselves, they wouldn’t go out on strike.

Unfortunately, Ana, the Israeli govt is in the grip of ultra-right-wing nationalists who are a minority of the Israeli people, but have acquired tremendous power. I have encountered these Israeli neocons in the past and I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted to just starve the Palestinians to death. As one wrote in an email many years ago: “The only good Arab is a dead Arab.” These Israeli neocons and their American supporters have absolutely no interest in peace or justice. As I say, they are a small minority, but that have great power in Israel at the moment because, like the US neocons under Bush, they have been successful at instilling fear in the general public, but what they don’t realize is that they are gradually killing Israel.

Interesting info on the miners — I hadn’t read that before but that’s just how the big mining operations worked — make the miners so dependent on the company they couldn’t afford to strike.
