Love’s Brief Return

Love’s Brief Return

Written by Lilith Raymour

If I could return to those days with you I would
Life was so sweet back then
And innocence was unknown
Because that’s all that was
How was I to know I would miss
What I didn’t even know I had
And once gone
Could never have again?

We were oh so grand together
Weren’t we?
What would have happened
If virgin lovers had consummated that love
In paradise?
Would we have ruined what we had
or turned love into love for a lifetime?

Now that bitterness
has placed a permanent crack in the cup
a Titanic breach in the hull
Is there anything left for us?
I think not

Yesterday
While you thought I slept
You sighed and said to a friend
“Oh, how I miss her”
Admitting you knew
We could never be us again

There
In the briefest of moments
I loved you as much or more
Than I did years before

Damaged goods
