This was a hard decision for me to make. I don’t know what’s in your mind. You don’t know what’s in mine. I would never declare all Republicans are racist. Nor even all of MAGA, though that one would be easier. A whole party and its policies? Still, a leap too far, but no more. The Republican Party has been providing more and more evidence that the party as a whole has racist policies when it comes to voting.
Back more than 100 years ago it was the Democratic Party, especially southern Democrats up until LBJ caused a split. Even Lincoln, at first, didn’t declare blacks should be voting.
The old methods are well known: murder, caging through all kinds of tests whites didn’t have to take. It must be remembered blacks were DELIBERATELY kept illiterate. Making such tests unfair and racist by their very nature.
However, as the two parties shifted philosophically, while methods changed, the goal was the same. With severe redistricting done whenever it’s politically convenient: sure they can vote. But it doesn’t matter. Gerrymandering taken to such an extreme that their vote hardly matters is outright racism. And don’t give me that “but Democrats were cheating” with that unproven claim that massive amounts of illegal immigrants were voting. If you try take your bogus many mules “documentary” and shove it along with broken glass up a certain very personal portal.
My wife and I saw this racism in action. We live,d in Nashville for 44 years. The changes were obvious…
Nashville used to be blue, outlying regions very very red. Redistricting eliminated that. Memphis used to be even bluer than Nashville. Redistricting has been shrinking that to just like it did Nashville.
I’m sorry, but picking out one race that tends not to vote your way and making sure their vote no longer counts is racist. No way around it. And am I REALLY “sorry?” HELL, NO.
Of course the Supreme 6 have closed their eyes with a hear no evil, see no evil attitude.
Can a black justice be racist? Sure when power and money count more than people. Just call him “Uncle Thomas.”
And the Republican Party might consider a slogan that reflects their gerrymandering policy…
”We don’t want the votes of them damn niggers to count for much.”

“Inspection” is a column that has been written by Ken Carman for over 50 years. Inspection is dedicated to looking at odd angles, under all the rocks and into the unseen cracks and crevasses that constitute the issues and philosophical constructs of our day: places few think, or even dare, to venture.
